Wegovy through telehealth with insurance
Getting Wegovy prescribed online and filled under insurance: the weight-management and cardiovascular indications, prior authorisation, the savings offer, and provider fees.
Two indications, two coverage paths
Wegovy is approved for chronic weight management and, since 2024, for reducing the risk of major cardiovascular events in adults with established cardiovascular disease and overweight or obesity. Plans that exclude weight-management drugs may still cover the cardiovascular indication for eligible patients, which changed the coverage picture, including for Medicare Part D. The prescriber’s documented indication therefore matters.
The path
The same as for Zepbound: telehealth evaluation, prescription to a pharmacy that bills the plan, prior authorisation if required, copay, optional manufacturer savings offer for commercially insured patients, and the provider’s own visit or membership fee unless it bills insurance. The provider profile records what each provider publishes about insurance once verified.
Oral Wegovy
The tablet form is an approved product with its own formulary status; coverage may differ from the pen.
Compounded semaglutide is not covered
Insurers cover approved products. A provider offering to help with insurance for a compounded product is describing something that does not exist; the red flags page lists it.
